Tension between Ukraine and Iran

Mohsen Rezai, a senior advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, reported that Iran had planned to carry out strikes on three targets in Ukraine. However, these attacks were called off after Ukraine issued an apology. This information emerged against the backdrop of strained relations between Ukraine and Iran, which escalated following an incident involving an Iranian cargo ship in the Caspian Sea.

On July 28, Ukraine's acting Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha had a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. Iran accused Ukraine of attacking its ship, resulting in the death of one sailor and injuries to another. In response, Iran summoned a Ukrainian diplomat and threatened retaliation. Abbas Araqchi even labeled the President of Ukraine as a 'freeloader', claiming that he attacked the vessel on Israel's orders.

Ukraine's response and further developments

At the same time, Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Ukraine had achieved significant results through long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea area, particularly against vessels used for transporting military cargo involving Iran. The Iranian Foreign Ministry, for its part, stated that it had never interfered in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and called for a UN Security Council meeting.

However, the Ukrainian side asserts that Tehran is a co-perpetrator of Russian aggression and cannot position itself as a victim. In the context of this conflict, the Iranian Foreign Ministry also emphasized that Ukraine had committed an internationally unlawful act and sought to escalate the war. Thus, the situation remains tense, and further developments may affect relations between the two countries.

Tension between Ukraine and Iran is rising amid mutual accusations and conflicts related to incidents in the Caspian Sea. The cancellation of Iran's potential attacks on Ukrainian targets indicates that diplomatic channels may still play a role in resolving the conflict. However, given the statements from both sides regarding future actions and positions, the situation may remain unstable and require careful monitoring by the international community.

As tensions escalate between Ukraine and Iran, the situation surrounding the alleged plans for strikes remains complex and uncertain.
