Statement from Iran's President

On March 7, 2026, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that Iran would cease attacks on neighboring countries, provided those nations do not launch strikes from their territories. This announcement comes amidst an escalating conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel that began in late February 2026. The region remains a critical geopolitical flashpoint, where such statements are closely analyzed for shifts in strategy. On the same day as the president's declaration, an aerial attack targeted the international airport in Dubai, UAE.

The conflict intensified following an Israeli strike on Iran on February 28. The situation was further inflamed by the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on March 1. In response, Iran announced a transition to a state of military confrontation on March 2 and declared a 40-day mourning period for its late leader. As of March 7, hostilities between the involved parties are ongoing.

From now on, we should not attack neighboring countries or launch missiles, unless they intend to attack us from these countries. I believe we need to resolve this issue through diplomatic channels.

Diplomatic Efforts and Next Steps

Diplomatic activity in the region has been active, as evidenced by a phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 23. U.S. military leadership estimates that combat operations could continue until September of this year. In a firm stance, President Trump stated that 'we will destroy the threat from the brutal Iranian regime,' underscoring American resolve in confronting Iran.

Consequently, the regional situation remains tense, and the subsequent actions of Iran and its neighbors could significantly influence the conflict's trajectory. Monitoring diplomatic efforts, which could alter the course of events, is crucial, especially given the escalation in military actions. The interplay between major actors like the U.S. and Israel will also likely have a substantial impact on regional stability.
