Iran's Military Power Under Strain: Missile Shortages and a Crippling Drought

Військовий потенціал Ірану під тиском: нестача ракет та проблеми з посухою

Iran's Military Capacity and Domestic Challenges

Polish analyst Piotr Kulpa has assessed Iran's military potential and internal situation, highlighting critical limitations in its missile and drone arsenals, as well as the impact of Israeli strikes on its logistics. Kulpa points out that Iran is grappling with severe domestic crises, most notably a devastating drought and acute water shortages. These internal pressures are unfolding against a backdrop of long-standing international sanctions and regional tensions.

Iran experienced its most severe drought on record last year, a crisis that has persisted into the current year. This has led to major disruptions in water supply, particularly in large urban centers like Isfahan and Tehran. As Piotr Kulpa notes,

"They had the worst drought in their history last year, and it is continuing this year as well, because they have very significant problems with water resources."

The Impact of External Pressure on Iran

Furthermore, targeted Israeli strikes on supply lines and ammunition depots are significantly weakening Iran's position. According to Kulpa,

"They will not have enough missiles, they will not have enough drones. Iran will not keep firing because it will need to rebuild."
He also emphasizes that Iran is
"clearly conserving missiles because its supply is not infinite."

The analyst believes that if the current situation continues for another month to six weeks, Iran will

"sooner or later"
exhaust its necessary resources.
"I do not believe Iran has infinite resources, that it can sit there indefinitely and churn out drones if it has no economy,"
Kulpa concluded.

Consequently, Iran's domestic troubles, specifically the water resource crisis and armament limitations, could substantially affect its future military potential. These factors, combined with external pressure from Israel, may lead to increased internal instability. This instability could, in turn, influence Iran's foreign policy and its capacity to respond to regional challenges. Faced with finite resources, Tehran may be forced to reassess its strategic priorities and seek new pathways to ensure its security and stability.

As Iran navigates its pressing domestic issues, the potential for accelerated military developments looms large. The ongoing strains on its military resources may drive Tehran to reconsider its nuclear ambitions in response to external threats.
