Iran's Justification of Self-Defense

Iran's Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir-Saeid Iravani, has asserted that Iran's actions constitute a legitimate right to self-defense and will not cease until aggression from the United States and Israel concludes. He stated that Iran is invoking Article 51 of the UN Charter, which provides for the right to self-defense in the event of an armed attack. Iravani further called on the United Nations to condemn the actions of Washington and Tel Aviv, which he claims violate Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“In response to this aggression, the Islamic Republic will continue to exercise its inherent and legitimate right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter,” Iravani declared.

He emphasized that the UN must demand the US and Israel immediately halt all their assaults on Iran and hold them accountable for violations of international humanitarian law, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

Regional Tensions Escalate

Amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, US President Donald Trump also commented on the situation, warning of consequences for Iran and expressing a readiness to continue military action. These developments underscore the volatility in the region and the intensifying conflict between Iran, the US, and Israel, which carries significant risks for international stability. This confrontation is part of a long-standing geopolitical rivalry in the Middle East.

The Iranian envoy's statements highlight the continuation of a conflict where the key players extend beyond Iran to include the US and Israel. Claims of self-defense and appeals to the international community may signal Iran's intent to bolster its diplomatic standing. Concurrently, the US response and its military readiness could lead to a dangerous escalation, threatening regional security and the stability of the global order.
