Iran Rebuilds Military Capabilities After Brief Hiatus
Iran is restoring its military capacity following a six-week pause that began in April. According to U.S. intelligence reports, the country is actively resuming the manufacture of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), launch platforms, and missile systems. This recovery is being supported by supplies from China, despite ongoing American sanctions, as well as assistance from Russia. Meanwhile, the extent of damage inflicted by U.S. and Israeli strikes turned out to be less severe than anticipated, allowing Iran to return to its previous military footing more quickly.
Current State of Iran's Defense Industry
Intelligence indicates that Iran has restarted production of certain drone models and is working to rebuild destroyed launch sites, missile complexes, and factories. Estimates suggest the country could fully restore its drone attack capability within roughly six months. About two-thirds of Iran's launch systems survived the strikes, and the majority of its coastal defense missiles remained intact. The allied air campaign did not target coastal military installations, which helped preserve a significant portion of the industrial base.
Admiral Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), had previously stated that
"up to 90% of Iran's defense industrial base had been eliminated, leaving the country unable to recover for years."However, these claims contradict new intelligence findings indicating that the destruction has only delayed Iran's full recovery by a few months. A large part of the industry was unaffected, and the country retains roughly half of its total UAV inventory.
Against this backdrop of escalating tensions, former U.S. President Donald Trump threatened a possible resumption of bombings if no new peace agreement is reached. Trump emphasized Washington's determination to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, stating:
"The situation is on the brink of escalation, but I have given the Security Council a few days to wait for the 'right answers.'"Consequently, the future of Iran's military capabilities is likely to remain a focal point of international attention.
