Iran Launches Missile Strikes on UAE and Bahrain in Retaliation for US-Israel Operation

Іран завдає ракетних ударів по ОАЕ та Бахрейну у відповідь на дії США та Ізраїлю.

Operation 'Lion's Roar'

On February 28, the United States and Israel initiated a major military campaign, codenamed 'Lion's Roar,' targeting dozens of sites within Iran. In retaliation, Iran fired approximately 35 missiles at Israel, resulting in two lightly wounded individuals. Iran also struck American military bases in several nations, including Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan. This escalation marks a significant widening of the conflict beyond its previous regional confines.

Bahraini authorities confirmed an attack on the Naval Support Activity Bahrain, which hosts the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet. Debris from an Iranian missile also fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, UAE, killing one person. Qatar's Ministry of Defense reported successfully intercepting missiles aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base. Iranian leadership claims that forty children at a girls' school were killed during the initial US-Israel strikes.

International Response

In response to the escalating conflict, French President Emmanuel Macron called for a UN Security Council meeting. The United Kingdom has bolstered its military presence in the region, while Germany confirmed that Israel had provided Berlin with advance notice of its operation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia has launched over 57,000 Iranian-made 'Shahed' drones against Ukraine, linking the regional crisis to the broader global security landscape.

It is important to note that pro-Iranian groups from which Israel anticipates further attacks include factions in Iraq, Lebanon's Hezbollah, and Yemen's Houthis. The British government emphasized that 'Iran must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.' Meanwhile, commenting on US actions, Abbas Araghchi noted:

“Donald Trump transformed the America First principle into Israel First.”

This volatile regional situation is drawing intense international scrutiny and concern. The United States has signaled a firm resolve. As Volodymyr Zelenskyy remarked:

“And whenever America shows determination, global criminals grow weaker. That same understanding should reach the Russians as well.”

The escalation between the US, Israel, and Iran underscores a sharp deterioration in the geopolitical climate of the Middle East. Iran's retaliatory strikes risk provoking a further cycle of violence, alarming international actors striving to prevent a full-scale regional war. The situation demands urgent attention from world leaders, as each new strike carries the potential for severe repercussions on global stability and security.
