Irish War Correspondent in Ukraine: 'People Don't Realize the Conflict Is Still Ongoing'

Ірландський журналіст на війні в Україні: «Люди не усвідомлюють, що конфлікт триває»

An Irish Photojournalist on the Ground in Ukraine

Irish photojournalist Kaelan Robertson, who lives in Ukraine, highlights a widespread lack of awareness abroad about the war's continuation. Robertson first arrived in the country on February 14, 2023, and later married his partner in Kyiv. He is now actively producing documentary films about the conflict to draw global attention to Ukraine's plight.

Kaelan Robertson notes he receives many messages from people in the US and the UK who are surprised the war is still happening.

"Honestly, I constantly get messages from people in the US and UK saying: 'I saw your video and didn't even know this was still going on. I didn't know Kyiv was actually being shelled,'" says the photojournalist.
This indicates that information about the war in Ukraine is not always reaching the international community effectively.

Persistent Questions About the Conflict

He also emphasizes that the questions he hears most frequently are whether the war is still ongoing, if Kyiv is really being shelled, if civilians are still being hunted daily, and if Russians are still trying to capture cities in Donbas with the same intensity.

"That's the question I hear most often. 'I didn't realize this was still going on. I didn't know civilians are still being hunted every day. I didn't know that in Donbas the Russians are still trying to capture cities with such intensity,'" he states.

Kaelan Robertson continues his work in Ukraine, striving to convey the truth about the war to a broad audience and raise awareness of what is happening in the country. His experience underscores the critical importance of staying informed about global events that may not always dominate international headlines, especially as media focus can shift to newer crises.

This situation highlights the vital need for continued information support and public education regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. When international attention wanes, the work of photojournalists and reporters like Kaelan Robertson becomes crucial for maintaining global awareness of the war and its impact on civilians. A lack of information can lead to a misreading of the situation, which in turn affects international policy and humanitarian initiatives. It serves as a reminder of the necessity for constant communication and interconnectedness between nations in the pursuit of truth and justice.

As Kaelan Robertson continues to shed light on the ongoing conflict, it’s important to understand how personal experiences shape perceptions of war. His recent wedding in Kyiv illustrates the profound impact of the situation on his life and worldview.
