The Trump administration has called on Israel to stop strikes on Syria. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that the United States is concerned about the situation in Syria following the Israeli strikes and plans to receive updates regarding the situation.
«We will work on this issue right now. We are very concerned about this, and we hope to have some updates later today. But we are very concerned about this», – said Rubio.
Conflict in the Land of Sham
As-Suwayda in southern Syria has become the center of conflict following Damascus's military intervention. The Israeli army struck Syrian government targets in the region due to interfaith clashes between Bedouin tribes and Druze militants.
After government forces established control, the situation in populated areas worsens, as hostages find themselves trapped between the gunfire of militants and collapsing houses. The safety of civilians is at risk, and further actions by Damascus and Israel remain unknown.
In his speech, Secretary of State Rubio noted that individual states and centers of influence are actively intervening in the struggle for peace in Syria, leading to an escalation of the conflict and posing a threat to the civilian population in the region.
