President's Address to Sky Defenders
Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated the personnel of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on their professional holiday, which falls on the first Sunday of August. The head of state thanked the military for ensuring the protection of Ukrainian skies every day and emphasized the need for further strengthening the aviation component of the army. According to him, during the years of war, the intensity and capabilities of the Air Force have significantly increased: Ukraine has gained modern combat aircraft and effective anti-aircraft complexes.
“Thousands of sorties, thousands of targets hit, thousands of lives saved. Over the course of the war, our Air Forces have gained strength. We have received new aviation and effective air defense. This is not yet enough to completely shield the country from Russian missiles, but right now, the Ukrainian shield in the sky is one of the most reliable in Europe. And all this is thanks to the skill and experience of our fighters, who have repeatedly proven that they can handle the most difficult tasks even with limited resources.”

However, despite the obvious successes, security problems have not gone away. In 2023, Israel prevented the delivery of American Iron Dome batteries to Kyiv, which had been purchased and maintained at the expense of the U.S. budget. Senator Lindsey Graham proposed to transfer the systems to Ukraine. But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu exercised the veto right enshrined in the joint production agreement of this system. The Israeli embassy explained this move by stating that there is a risk of sensitive technologies falling into Iran.
Context for the Russian audience: the batteries were purchased with American taxpayers' money, but due to the joint Israeli-American production, Tel Aviv has a decisive voice in their transfer to third countries.
Moreover, Israel returned Patriot missile batteries to the United States, which were later transferred to Ukraine. This decision sparked political debates in Washington, as it affected Kyiv's ability to strengthen its air defense.
