Israel Launches Major Strikes on Tehran, Targeting Iran's Revolutionary Guard

Ізраїль завдає потужних ударів по Тегерану, намагаючись послабити позиції іранських військових.

Israeli Military Strikes Hit Tehran

Israeli forces have conducted strikes on targets in Tehran belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other military installations. This military action follows Israel's announcement of a preemptive strike. Human rights groups report that the attack has resulted in casualties among both civilians and military personnel.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that their Air Force achieved air superiority over the Iranian capital. More than 100 aircraft participated in the wave of strikes on Tehran. According to the human rights organization HRANA, at least 133 civilians have been killed and 200 injured in Iran as a result of the joint American-Israeli strikes. The reports also indicate the death of at least eight military personnel and injuries to two others. This escalation marks a significant and direct confrontation between the two long-standing adversaries.

Declaration of a Preemptive Strike

On February 28, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the start of a preemptive strike against Iran. Following his statement, a series of explosions were heard in Tehran. The attack occurred after repeated warnings from the United States and Israel. IDF spokesperson Effie Defrin stated:

“Our message to the Iranians is clear: we will know how to reach anyone – at headquarters, in bunkers, anywhere – no one is immune.”

He further emphasized that “in coordination and conjunction with American forces, we started strong, and we continue to move forward strongly.”

The targets of the strikes included:

  • The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
  • Intelligence headquarters
  • Internal security headquarters

This Israeli military operation could have significant repercussions for regional security, as it signals a sharp escalation in the long-running shadow conflict between Israel and Iran. Military actions accompanied by civilian casualties may provoke an international response and impact relations between the United States and its allies in the region. Furthermore, the heightened tensions could lead to new threats to Middle Eastern stability if the parties do not find a path to a diplomatic resolution.
