Israel’s XTEND Unveils AtlasROVER Ground Robot Powered by XOS OS for Diverse Platforms

A Unified OS for All Robotic Systems

In Israel, engineers have created a ground-based robot using the same platform that powers aerial drones.

XTEND, an Israeli robotics firm, has introduced the AtlasROVER, a terrestrial robot built on the XOS operating system previously utilized by airborne drones. This marks the first deployment of XOS on ground platforms following XTEND’s acquisition of Latvian robotics company Atlas earlier in 2024. The AtlasROVER is designed to operate effectively in challenging environments and is capable of carrying various payloads.

The XOS system provides a unified software framework across multiple robot types, enabling seamless collaboration between machines and allowing human operators to guide autonomous functions. Described as a hardware-agnostic OS tailored for physical artificial intelligence and human-supervised autonomy, XOS integration enables the AtlasROVER to function within the same ecosystem as XTEND’s aerial robots.

Looking ahead, XTEND aims to expand XOS’s reach across air, land, and maritime robotic platforms.

“Our vision is not to develop isolated robotic products but to establish a shared software layer that extends across aerial, ground, and eventually marine systems,” said Aviv Shapira, XTEND’s CEO and co-founder.

Advancements in Humanoid Robotics

Meanwhile, Israeli company Mentee Robotics has launched an upgraded version of its humanoid robot, the Mentee Bot V3.1, designed specifically for industrial applications. This iteration features full internal integration of hardware, embedded software, and artificial intelligence.
