Ukrainian Government Invests in Energy Infrastructure Protection and Restoration
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has committed more than 157 million hryvnias from the state budget's reserve fund to safeguard and rehabilitate the energy infrastructure in the Kherson and Sumy regions. This funding aims to repair facilities seriously damaged by ongoing military conflicts and to ensure reliable energy supply for the affected communities.
Funding Focused on Energy Facility Security
Specifically, 50 million hryvnias have been designated to enhance the protection of eight critical energy sites in Kherson Oblast. Vitaliy Kindrativ highlighted the urgency of this move:
“Kherson remains under daily enemy fire, making the fortification of its energy infrastructure a top priority. We are providing an additional 50 million hryvnias to reinforce eight key energy facilities, which will improve their resilience against attacks and reduce interruptions in power supply to local residents.”
In Sumy Oblast, 107.07 million hryvnias will be used to restore a major energy facility severely damaged by a Russian strike on June 30, 2026. This facility is crucial for heating nearly 160,000 households in the region. Kindrativ emphasized the significance of this restoration effort:
“The uninterrupted operation of this energy site is vital to providing heat to almost 160,000 families. Our goal is to swiftly repair the damaged infrastructure and ensure it is fully operational ahead of the 2026/27 heating season. For this purpose, the Government is allocating over 107 million hryvnias from the state budget reserve fund.”
Restoration in Sumy is expected to be completed by October 31, 2026, ensuring readiness for the upcoming heating period. Similarly, works in Kherson are planned to finish by the end of 2026. Funds for Kherson will also support additional protective measures, including engineering reinforcements and anti-drone systems.
