Dismissal of Oleg Gotsinyets

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has made a decision to dismiss Oleg Gotsinyets from the position of head of the State Geological Service of Ukraine. Gotsinyets held this position since November 2023. His predecessor was Roman Opimakh, who was dismissed on November 8, 2024.

Information about Roman Opimakh

Roman Opimakh led the State Geological Service since November 2019. During his leadership, he declared an apartment in Spain and reported income of 905,505 UAH in his 2023 declaration. Opimakh also has cash savings of $20 thousand and 35 thousand euros. His family owns four apartments in Kyiv, two of which were purchased in 2020, and the total cost of the recently acquired apartments is nearly 7 million UAH.

Before his appointment as head of the State Geological Service, Oleg Gotsinyets worked as the head of the mineral resources department at JSC 'Ukrgasvydobuvannya' and as a project manager at NJSC 'Naftogaz of Ukraine'. In June 2025, Dmytro Lubinets appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers demanding the dismissal of Roman Opimakh.

Thus, changes in the leadership of the State Geological Service of Ukraine occur against the backdrop of previous scandals and calls for dismissal.

The dismissal of Oleg Gotsinyets and his predecessor Roman Opimakh indicates possible instability in the leadership of this important state institution responsible for geological and mineral resource issues in Ukraine.

Given the previous scandals and pressure from political figures, such personnel changes may reflect attempts by the authorities to improve governance in this area and respond to public demands for transparency and accountability. It is now crucial who will take this position next as it may influence the strategy for the development of mineral resources in Ukraine.
