Ukrainian Weightlifting Achieves New Heights

Ukrainian weightlifter Kamila Konotop has been crowned the absolute European champion in the 58 kg category at the competition held in Batumi. This marks her fourth time claiming the overall European title, having previously won it in 2021, 2023, and 2024. Konotop delivered a dominant performance, securing victory in the snatch, the clean and jerk, and the total combined lift. Her success underscores Ukraine's growing strength in the sport on the continental stage.

At the 2026 European Weightlifting Championships, the Ukrainian national team secured a total of seven medals. Among other notable achievements was the silver medal won by Olha Ivzhenko in the clean and jerk for the 58 kg category. In the 48 kg category, Kateryna Malashchuk also made a significant contribution, earning three medals: one silver and two bronzes.

Performance at the Winter Olympics

Separate from the European Championship success, the Ukrainian team also competed at the 2026 Winter Olympics, where, unfortunately, they did not win any medals. However, Ukrainian athletes placed within the top ten in various disciplines on eight occasions. The results highlight the nation's broad athletic development beyond its traditional strengths.

  • Sixth place was achieved by representatives in freestyle skiing, ski acrobatics, the mixed team event, and participants in the luge team relay.
  • Seventh place was secured by Oleksandra Moh and Olena Stetskiv in the women's doubles luge event.

The competition outcomes emphasize the consistent progress of Ukrainian athletes in weightlifting, particularly through the achievements of Kamila Konotop, who continues to hold a top position internationally. Despite the lack of medals at the Winter Olympics, the performances of Ukrainian athletes across various disciplines demonstrate their competitiveness and potential for future events.

In addition to Konotop's remarkable achievements, other Ukrainian weightlifters are also making headlines. Kateryna Malashchuk's recent medal wins at the European Championships highlight the depth of talent within the national team, showcasing the country's promising future in the sport.
