Монета з дизайном української великодньої писанки від Королівського монетного двору Канади: обмежений випуск у 350 екземплярів на суму 18 000 доларів.

Royal Canadian Mint Strikes a Golden Pysanka Coin

The Royal Canadian Mint has released a special limited-edition gold coin celebrating Ukrainian cultural heritage. Crafted from 58.5 grams of pure gold, the coin features a symbolic rose ornament and bears the profile of King Charles III on its obverse. This release highlights the global appreciation for Ukrainian traditions, particularly poignant given current events.

The coin's design was created by artists Steven Rosati and Dave Melnychuk, the latter being a member of the Ukrainian Museum of Canada in Toronto. While its face value is 250 Canadian dollars, the actual selling price reaches nearly 18,000 Canadian dollars. Only 350 of these collector's items have been minted.

This golden pysanka is part of an annual series that the Canadian mint has been producing for a decade.

Ukraine Withdraws Older Banknotes from Circulation

Meanwhile, in Ukraine, older low-denomination paper banknotes are being withdrawn from circulation. Paper notes of 1, 2, 5, and 10 hryvnias from the 2003–2007 series are no longer legal tender and can no longer be used for payments in stores.

  • These low-value notes are rarely used in retail transactions today.
  • Their average lifespan in circulation is approximately 2.5 years.
  • The phased withdrawal of these notes began back in 2020.

The issuance of the golden pysanka coin by Canada underscores the growing international interest in Ukrainian culture. Simultaneously, the retirement of old banknotes in Ukraine reflects an ongoing modernization of the nation's financial system, adapting to new economic realities and aiming to improve the efficiency of currency circulation.
