The Canadian government has announced sanctions against eight Russian individuals implicated in the unlawful transfer of Ukrainian children, as well as the promotion of hostile ideology and their militarization. These measures respond to activities including the forced deportation and ideological indoctrination of children from Ukraine. Among those sanctioned are key figures responsible for these abuses, such as:
- Grigory Gurov, head of the Federal Youth Agency 'Rosmolodezh',
- Alexander Kurenkov, Minister of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation,
- Artur Orlov, chairman of the board of the 'Movement of the First',
- Denis Chernobay, leader of the regional branch of the movement,
- Vladimir Khromov, advisor to the Commissioner for Children's Rights,
- Olena Milska, chairperson of the Board of the National Center for Missing and Affected Children,
- Oleksandra Kulhina, head of the Donetsk regional branch of the Movement of the First,
- Vitaliy Suk, a collaborator.
Canada emphasized that the sanctions target individuals currently or previously involved in the illegal deportation and forced displacement of Ukrainian children by Russia, as well as their indoctrination and militarization.
