Diego Palacios's Loan Deal Cut Short

Ukrainian football club Carpathians have terminated the loan agreement for left-back Diego Palacios. The 26-year-old Ecuadorian international joined the team in August 2025 but made only two appearances for the club, failing to register a goal or an assist during his brief stint. His departure comes as the club assesses its defensive options midway through the season.

Palacios remains under contract with his parent club, Brazilian side Corinthians, until the end of 2027. He initially joined Corinthians as a free agent in January 2024. The loan spell to Carpathians, which commenced in August 2025, has now been concluded prematurely.

Team Status and Upcoming Fixtures

  • Carpathians currently hold ninth place in the Ukrainian Premier League, having accumulated 19 points.
  • On January 20, 2026, the team suffered a 1:2 defeat against South Korean side Daejeon Hana Citizen.
  • Their next match is scheduled for January 22, 2026, against Real Murcia B.

The termination of Palacios's loan could impact Carpathians' strategy for the remainder of the Ukrainian league campaign, where they are aiming to improve their standing. His absence may prompt the club to seek new defensive reinforcements as they look to climb from their mid-table position. The upcoming fixtures will be crucial for Carpathians as they attempt to gain momentum and secure a higher league ranking.
