Singer Kazhana Ends Contract with Nova Music

Ukrainian singer Kazhana, whose real name is Hanna Makienko, has announced the termination of her contract with the Nova Music label, founded by fellow artist Yana Shemaieva, known professionally as Jerry Heil. Kazhana has publicly accused the label of blackmail and unacceptable terms, which she described as 'slave-like' conditions. This public dispute highlights the often challenging power dynamics between artists and their management in the music industry.

In a statement, the singer stated her desire to be released from the contract as previously agreed, without what she called blackmail from the label regarding her salary or royalties to force her to sign a new, unsatisfactory deal. Her comments reflect a deep dissatisfaction with the current situation and a determination to escape these unacceptable terms.

Label Confirms Contract Termination

Nova Music has confirmed the early termination of its collaboration with Kazhana. It was revealed that in late autumn 2025, both parties concluded that the terms of their cooperation were no longer mutually satisfactory and began discussions on the next steps. The situation has drawn public attention, as relationships between creative talents and their producers frequently raise questions about ethics and fair practice in the entertainment business.

Furthermore, the draw for Ukraine's National Selection for the Eurovision Song Contest took place on January 15, 2026, which may impact Kazhana's future musical plans. The contract termination with Nova Music casts doubt on her potential participation in the contest, as switching labels may require significant time to establish new partnerships and prepare for performances. The Eurovision selection process is a major platform for artists in Ukraine and across Europe.

This split between Kazhana and Nova Music underscores the difficulties artists can face regarding contractual terms in the industry. Given the public nature of the conflict, it may affect the label's reputation within the music community. For the singer, while a label change opens new opportunities, it will also demand a period of adaptation and the forging of new connections in the competitive music world.
