The head of police in Ukraine's Cherkasy region, Oleh Hudyma, has voluntarily stepped back from his operational duties. This move comes as authorities investigate a deadly ambush that resulted in the killing of four police officers and left a fifth wounded. The incident occurred while officers were attempting to apprehend a murder suspect, who opened fire on them.

The fatal shooting took place approximately 500 meters from the home of the suspect, identified as 59-year-old Serhii Rusinov, a resident of Korsunshchyna and a former serviceman. The loss of the four officers represents a severe blow to the regional law enforcement community, and a full investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.
