Accident in Sviatoshyn District

An accident involving a drunk Audi driver occurred in Kyiv’s Sviatoshyn District. While under the influence, the driver crashed into a Ford, causing the Audi to then hit a tree. According to reports, no one was injured in the collision. A breathalyzer test recorded 1.79 promille, nearly nine times the legal limit.

This marks the third time in a year this driver has violated traffic laws for drunk driving. He had previously been caught and had his license revoked by a court for similar offenses. Authorities filed administrative charges for:

  • causing an accident by violating traffic regulations;
  • driving while legally disqualified from doing so;
  • repeated drunk driving (for the third time in a year).

In addition, investigators opened a criminal case under Article 382 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which deals with failure to comply with a court ruling.

Fatal Crash in Obukhiv Region

Separately, a fatal accident occurred in the Obukhiv region. A 57-year-old man died when his Citroen C-Elysee collided head-on with a DAF truck. The incident happened on the Kyiv-Znamianka highway near the town of Kaharlyk after the Citroen driver veered into oncoming traffic.

These traffic accidents highlight the serious problem of drunk driving in Ukraine, which endangers not only drivers and passengers but also other road users. The Audi driver’s case shows that repeat offenses can lead to criminal liability. Meanwhile, the tragedy in Obukhiv serves as a stark reminder that even a single mistake on the road can be fatal. It is crucial for law enforcement to continue working to improve road safety and prevent such incidents.

In light of the recent incidents involving intoxicated drivers, such as the case of a Hyundai driver who crashed into a store after fleeing a previous accident, it's evident that the issue of drunk driving is pervasive in Kyiv. These events not only jeopardize the safety of the offenders but also pose a significant risk to innocent bystanders.
