Kyiv Faces 10-Hour Blackouts in Emergency Power Cuts

Київ страждає від тривалих відключень електроенергії через нестачу ресурсів.

Power Supply Situation in Kyiv and Dnipro

On January 18, YASNO CEO Serhii Kovalenko reported that Kyiv is experiencing emergency power outages, with schedules becoming stricter. Currently, residents can expect roughly 3 hours with electricity followed by 10 hours without, though the situation in the energy system remains fluid. These rolling blackouts are a direct consequence of Russia's ongoing attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

For now, Dnipro and its region are operating on a scheduled plan, but the country is transitioning to new schedules with 4.5 to 5 outage cycles. The previous maximum intervals of 7 hours without power and 3.5 hours with power are no longer applicable. Under the new conditions with 5 cycles of restrictions, blackouts could last over 16 hours.

Serhii Kovalenko stated that 'the probable outage schedule is no longer relevant.'

He added that even such a severe schedule is preferable to complete unpredictability, as it provides the population with some guidance for planning their daily lives.

Critical Energy Supply Situation in Ukraine

The energy supply situation across Ukraine remains critical, driven by both technical problems within the energy system and the impact of external factors. With the new outage schedules anticipating significant periods without electricity, it is vital for the population to be informed and prepared for these changes. This awareness is crucial to mitigate the negative consequences for daily life and the economy as a whole.
