Kyiv’s 1,544th Anniversary Events
In 2026, the Ukrainian capital will mark its 1,544th founding anniversary on May 31. Even under martial law, the city has organized a series of cultural, charitable, and entertainment events that capture the spirit of unity and resilience among Kyivans. Scheduled activities include festivals, exhibitions, guided tours, concerts, and quests designed to engage both residents and visitors.
A highlight is the 14th International Festival "Book Arsenal," running from May 28 to 31. Its focus theme is "Carrying Your Freedom," curated by Maksym Butkevych. The venue is the Mystetskyi Arsenal complex at 10-12 Lavrska Street.
Planned Activities
- Charity "Run Under the Chestnuts" – now in its 33rd edition. Participation costs 400 UAH for a 5-kilometer distance. Last year, the event raised 2 million UAH for charity. In 2026, due to security concerns, the run will be held online.
- Exhibition "City of Strength" – on display from May 28 to July 27, 2026, at the Avangarden gallery.
- Kyiv Art Days – taking place on May 30 and 31 at Avangarden, located at 23a Sichovykh Striltsiv Street.
- Themed tour at Saint Sophia Cathedral – on May 30 from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM.
- Event "Iconic Places on the Map of Kyiv" – on May 31 at 3:00 PM at the Sens bookstore, 34 Khreshchatyk Street.
- Public discussion "Kyiv We Don’t See" – held on May 30 at 2:00 PM at the Museum of the History of Kyiv. Admission is free with prior registration.
- Kyiv Day quest by Hey Guide and Fujifilm Ukraine – on May 31 at 11:00 AM, starting at the Passage (entrance from Khreshchatyk Street).
- Folk culture festival at the Ivan Honchar Museum – on May 30 and 31, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
- Pop culture festival "Generation" at VDNG – from May 29 to 31, featuring performances by well-known artists.
- Concert by the band Mova with the program "Kyiv Retro" – on May 31 at 6:00 PM at Caribbean Club (4 S. Petlyury Street).
- Setting a Ukrainian record for the largest cake, "Kyiv Gift for Kyiv Day," at the Respublika Park shopping mall.
