Before the snowfall began, on January 5, 2026, the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center issued a warning about a difficult synoptic situation. Severe weather conditions are expected from January 6 to January 10, 2026. During this period, residents of the capital may observe:
- sharp temperature fluctuations and atmospheric pressure;
- a combination of snowfall with wet snow and rain;
- thick fog and ice.
Measures by the authorities
The Kyiv Regional Military Administration has also taken steps to mitigate the effects of bad weather. 55 control points and truck parking areas have been prepared to prevent traffic jams on the roads. The situation in the city remains under control, and municipal services continue to work on clearing the snow and ensuring traffic flow.
Significant snowfall in Kyiv poses a challenge for municipal services and residents of the city, as it complicates movement and can lead to traffic jams. The measures taken, such as deploying equipment and preparing control points, indicate the authorities' readiness to respond to extreme weather conditions. The situation will remain critical over the next few days, making it important to exercise caution on the roads and monitor weather forecasts.
