Kyiv Braces for a Winter of +6°C Temperatures, Posing a Direct Health Threat

Київ готується до холодного сезону з температурою +6°C, що може загрожувати здоров'ю містян.

Kyiv Prepares for a Challenging Winter

Kyiv is preparing for winter under the threat of low indoor temperatures, which could drop to as low as +6 to +10 degrees Celsius. This crisis stems from attacks on the energy infrastructure, creating a severe health risk for the capital's residents. Data indicates that in many Kyiv apartments this winter, indoor temperatures may be nearly the same as those outside.

WHO Guidelines on Safe Temperatures

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that indoor temperatures in living spaces remain above +18°C, while readings below +12°C are considered critical. Currently, adhering to these standards is becoming increasingly difficult. According to former Fuel and Energy Minister Ivan Plachkov, damage to the energy infrastructure is at least 80%.

Such conditions can negatively impact people's well-being. Emergency medicine physician Nargiz Javadova noted that:

'If a person feels discomfort from the cold, wakes up at night shivering, or cannot sleep properly, this is already a signal that the room temperature has ceased to be acceptable and has entered a risk zone.' - Nargiz Javadova

Consequently, the upcoming winter in Kyiv threatens not just comfort but the very health of its inhabitants. This situation highlights the critical importance of effective energy resource management, especially amid ongoing threats to infrastructure.

Restoring the energy grid and ensuring adequate heating in residential buildings are now urgent priorities for safeguarding public health. Authorities must take immediate action to improve the situation and prevent serious consequences for the capital's residents during the winter months.
