Mother Suspected of Severe Parental Neglect

A 43-year-old woman in Kyiv's Solomianskyi district has been formally notified that she is a suspect in a criminal case involving the severe neglect of her parental duties toward her 14-year-old daughter. Following the notification, the woman cleaned her home and purchased groceries. According to reports, she had previously faced repeated legal consequences for domestic violence incidents and had ignored a court order to complete a specialized correctional program. This case highlights ongoing challenges in Ukraine's child welfare and domestic violence prevention systems.

The charges against her fall under Article 166 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, which can carry a penalty of up to five years of restricted or full imprisonment. Medical and psychological examinations of the teenage girl documented an unstable psychological state, heightened anxiety levels, and acute emotional reactions to her surroundings.

Domestic Violence in Ukraine: A Wider Problem

This incident underscores the broader issue of domestic violence in Ukraine. In a separate case in Kyiv's Dniprovskyi district, a 44-year-old woman was sentenced to one year in prison for psychologically abusing her 64-year-old mother. Furthermore, in the Desnianskyi district, a 36-year-old woman was exposed for systematically torturing her 9-year-old son. These cases point to serious problems within family dynamics and the urgent need for effective intervention by authorities.

Domestic violence remains a persistent problem in Ukraine, and instances of family abuse demand immediate action. Authorities are obligated to implement measures that ensure the safety of children and women suffering from violence, as well as to provide rehabilitation and support for victims. The increasing number of criminal cases indicates a pressing need to improve mechanisms for preventing and responding to such incidents to guarantee a safe environment for all members of society.
