The situation with energy supply in Kyiv
Kyiv may encounter serious problems with energy supply due to the destroyed 'Kyiv' substation, which provided electricity from the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant. According to the head of the Utility Consumers Union, Oleg Popenko, the situation is critical, and the capital may remain without light for 20-22 hours a day.
Internal electricity generation in the Kyiv region currently covers only 20-25% of needs, while the electricity deficit reaches 70%. Popenko noted that at a temperature of -10 degrees, the share of internal generation may drop to 10%. This could lead to significant difficulties for the residents of the capital.
Proposals for an energy truce
In addition, President Volodymyr Zelensky has voiced a proposal for an energy truce that could be initiated against the backdrop of the growing energy crisis. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also conveyed a proposal for an energy and maritime truce to Vladimir Putin.
'The absence of both factors will lead to a complete catastrophe.' Oleg Popenko
The situation requires urgent resolution to avoid serious consequences for the residents of Kyiv.
The energy supply situation in Kyiv reflects the overall crisis in the energy sector of Ukraine, caused not only by the destruction of infrastructure but also by a high deficit of electricity, which can significantly impact the daily lives of the population.
The proposals for an energy truce emphasize the urgency of addressing these issues, as their success depends on the stability of energy supply in the country amid rising winter heat and economic instability.
