Kyiv Faces Extreme Fire Hazard Starting July 1

Київ під загрозою пожеж у період літньої аномалії з 1 липня.

Extreme Fire Danger Level Expected

Starting July 1, Kyiv and the surrounding region will experience an extreme fire hazard. In response, authorities have banned entry into forests and forest park areas. This measure was enacted by the Kyiv City Defense Council and remains in effect under martial law. Additionally, fines have been established for violating rules related to lighting fires and burning grass.

Penalties for Rule Violations

Under Article 152 of the Ukrainian Code on Administrative Offenses, penalties for breaching public order and fire regulations are as follows:

  • 340 to 1,360 hryvnias for individuals;
  • 6,120 to 12,240 hryvnias for those caught burning grass;
  • 21,420 to 30,600 hryvnias for officials.

Forest fires continue to burn in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Firefighters have successfully contained two major fire sites, but a new area of smoke was detected via drone surveillance at another location. Over 260 personnel and approximately 65 pieces of specialized equipment have been deployed to combat the blaze. While the situation remains under control, emergency services urge caution due to the heightened risk.

The ban on entering forests in the Kyiv region is a preventive measure aimed at reducing the likelihood of fires during this period of elevated fire danger.

Given the ongoing fires in the Chernobyl zone, it is critical to follow established rules and avoid actions that could spark new blazes. The deployment of large numbers of rescue workers and equipment underscores the severity of the threat and the need for constant vigilance over fire risks in the area.

As the situation in Kyiv intensifies with the extreme fire hazard, it is important to note that the city is currently enveloped in smoke from ongoing wildfires in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. This environmental challenge adds another layer of concern for residents. For more details on the impact of these wildfires, you can read about how smoke from the Chernobyl zone is affecting Kyiv.
