Public Transport Fare Update in Kyiv
Starting July 15, 2026, Kyiv plans to introduce new fares for municipal transport. A single trip on the metro, trams, trolleybuses, and buses will cost 30 UAH. Along with the new pricing, a flexible discount system based on the number of trips will be implemented:
- 1-9 trips – 30 UAH;
- 10-19 trips – 28.90 UAH;
- 20-29 trips – 27.80 UAH;
- 30-39 trips – 26.60 UAH;
- 40-49 trips – 25.50 UAH;
- 50 trips – 25 UAH.
Additionally, a transfer ticket will be introduced at 60 UAH, allowing unlimited transfers within 90 minutes from the first validation. Kyiv’s public transport fares have remained unchanged since 2018. According to available data, the cost of a single trip using a monthly pass is estimated at approximately 23.3-23.6 UAH.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated, 'Rising costs of fuel, electricity, consumables, and logistics are forcing the city administration to bring fares closer to an economically justified level.'
Regarding discounts, students will pay 50% of the monthly pass price, while schoolchildren can ride for free during the academic year. During the summer months, schoolchildren will receive a 75% discount on fares. Proposals for the new fare plan can be submitted until June 1, 2026.
This fare adjustment for Kyiv’s municipal transport reflects the city government’s effort to align prices with economic realities, considering increased costs for maintaining transport infrastructure. The update also includes flexible discounts that may encourage residents to use public transit more frequently. This, in turn, could help reduce car traffic in the city and improve the environmental situation.
As Kyiv prepares to adjust its public transport fares, residents may also want to consider the upcoming changes in parking fees, which will take effect in April 2026. These adjustments aim to enhance urban mobility and reduce congestion in the city. Understanding both transport fare and parking fee updates will provide a clearer picture of the city's efforts to promote sustainable transportation options.
