Cogeneration Units for Kyiv
Kyiv is set to receive two cogeneration units from the German organization GIZ next week, a critical move to strengthen the city's energy infrastructure. This delivery comes at a time when Ukraine's power grid remains in a critical state following sustained Russian attacks. Cogeneration technology simultaneously produces electricity and useful heat, making it an efficient solution for urban energy needs.
Currently, Kyiv has five cogeneration units installed, but only two are operational. Commissioning work is being finalized at the three other sites. This gradual improvement is vital, given the massive damage to Ukraine's generating capacity. Since October 2025, the Russian Federation has damaged 8.5 GW of Ukraine's power generation, highlighting the urgent need for new and resilient energy solutions.

Andriy Sybiha noted that 18 countries have now provided Ukraine with energy equipment, demonstrating broad international support for restoring the power grid. These new cogeneration units will help Kyiv improve its energy independence and ensure a more stable electricity supply for its residents. This support is part of a wider Western effort to help Ukraine withstand attacks on its civilian infrastructure.
