Kyiv Deploys Mobile Charging Units on Patrols
In response to ongoing utility disruptions, Kyiv's Municipal Guard has begun deploying patrol vehicles equipped with mobile charging stations to assist residents during electricity blackouts. This initiative comes as the city grapples with severe damage to its power, heating, and water infrastructure caused by repeated Russian attacks. These rolling power banks offer a vital lifeline for charging phones and essential devices in a city under strain.
As of the evening of January 20, the capital's water supply, which had been halted due to enemy shelling, was fully restored. However, the heating situation remains critical. On the morning of January 23, heating was still absent in 1,940 apartment buildings. These multi-story buildings are being reconnected to the district heating system for a second time following attacks that occurred on January 9 and 20.
Ongoing Critical Disruptions to Essential Services
Earlier in January, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to consider leaving the city if possible due to the dire state of core utilities. He stated that
"the situation is critical with essential services – heating, water supply, electricity"- Vitali Klitschko.
Currently, 5,600 apartment buildings remain without heat. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized that
"the situation in the energy system remains extremely tense"- Denys Shmyhal.
The Kyiv City Military Administration has not confirmed reports of a mass exodus from the capital.
