Incident in Kyiv
A 16-year-old girl in Kyiv sustained 73% burns after falling into a pit filled with boiling water. The incident occurred on Lobanovskyi Avenue on January 2, 2026, where heat energy workers were conducting repairs at a damaged heating network. Due to a pipe rupture, an unprotected pit filled with hot water was formed.
The girl walked unimpeded to the scene of the accident around 4 PM and fell into the boiling water. She is currently in the hospital in critical condition. Additionally, another victim, a 53-year-old woman, also sustained burns. She stepped into the hot water on the sidewalk, resulting in injuries.
Investigation and Safety
The prosecutor's office is conducting a preliminary investigation into the negligence. Currently, investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing, as well as an assessment of the actions of the workers responsible for safety at the accident site.
This incident underscores the importance of adhering to safety measures during repair work, especially in urban conditions. The lack of barriers and proper warnings about hazards can lead to serious consequences, as happened in this case.
The prosecutor's investigation may reveal shortcomings in the organization of work and take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
