Collection of Christmas trees in Kyiv
Kyiv has begun its annual collection of Christmas trees for recycling, which will last until January 31. The collected spruce and pine trees are chipped into mulch, which is used for plant care. As of January 7, 2026, more than 650 trees have already been brought to the collection points. In 2025, about 8.6 thousand trees were recycled.
Conditions for tree acceptance
Only live trees without decorations are accepted. The Christmas tree must not have toys, remnants of rain, garlands, or other decorations. Artificial trees are not eligible for recycling in this way. The collection points will operate until the end of January, providing an opportunity for capital residents to join the ecological initiative.
The state enterprise 'Forests of Ukraine' has sold 91.4 thousand New Year trees. The highest demand for Christmas trees is observed in the Volyn and Rivne regions, where over 25 thousand trees were sold. The smallest sales volumes were in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions, where only 625 trees were sold. This campaign aims not only at recycling trees but also at drawing attention to the importance of ecological initiatives among the population.
The collection of Christmas trees in Kyiv is an important part of the city's environmental policy aimed at reducing waste and supporting the ecosystem. The initiative allows residents to get rid of their Christmas trees after the holidays while participating in recycling, highlighting responsibility for the environment. Such initiatives can encourage the population to adopt a more conscious attitude towards nature and resources.
