Feeding Kyiv and Its Region

In response to the widespread power outages caused by Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy grid, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has announced measures to provide food for residents of Kyiv and the surrounding region. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) has prepared 41 mobile kitchens for this purpose. Four are currently operational, feeding SES rescue workers, while the remaining 37 are on standby for rapid deployment across the city.

Current Food Distribution Efforts

Across the capital, 56 hot meal distribution points are functioning. These are run by the organizations World Central Kitchen and the Red Cross in coordination with the SES. Over the past week, residents have received more than 26,000 meals. The situation in the Kyiv region is also being managed:

  • In Brovary, a food truck is capable of providing up to 16,000 meals per day.
  • In Irpin, a kitchen train operated by Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) distributes 4,000 meals daily.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude to all those assisting communities during this period of severe energy disruption following enemy attacks, emphasizing the critical importance of supporting people despite the difficult situation in the energy sector.

As the war continues and the consequences of the strikes persist, it is critically important to provide the population with essential resources, including food. The actions of the government and humanitarian organizations demonstrate efforts to overcome the war's consequences and support the most vulnerable segments of the population. Providing hot meals is one element that helps people endure these difficult times, preserving their physical and moral resilience during the crisis.
