Ukraine's refusal of territorial concessions

Kyiv rejected the proposal of US President Donald Trump regarding territorial concessions to Russia and suggested its own 20-point plan to end the war with strict security guarantees. President Trump unveiled a 28-point peace plan for Ukraine, but the Ukrainian side decided to present an alternative.

The Ukrainian plan consists of three documents that were sent to Washington on Wednesday evening. Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, emphasized that the security guarantees document should be submitted to the US Congress. He also noted that

“when you tell us about compromise, you need to propose a fair compromise.”
Zelensky stressed the importance of this document 'providing concrete answers to what worries Ukrainians the most.'

Public opinion and anti-corruption investigations

According to the Constitution of Ukraine, any territorial concession must be put to a vote. Recent polls indicate that the majority of people in Ukraine do not support the idea of giving up territory for the sake of peace. This suggests that public opinion is an important factor in determining Ukraine's future strategy for peace with Russia.

In the context of these events, it is worth noting that Umerov was questioned in the framework of an anti-corruption investigation in Ukraine over corruption allegations. This aspect adds further tension to the already complex situation surrounding peace negotiations.

Kyiv continues to actively work on its plan, striving to achieve stable peace on its terms.

Ukraine's refusal of territorial concessions underscores its commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is a key aspect for maintaining internal consensus and public trust. At the same time, anti-corruption investigations could affect the political climate in the country, which in turn could complicate peace negotiations. It is important for the Ukrainian authorities to continue working on transparency and accountability to ensure stability in the ever-changing situation.
