Kyiv Schools to Reopen February 2nd, Allowing Individual Choice of Format

Школи Києва відновлять навчання 2 лютого, даючи можливість вибору формату навчання.

Kyiv Municipal Educational Institutions to Resume Classes

Classes will resume in Kyiv's municipal educational institutions starting February 2nd. Each individual school will have the autonomy to decide the format of its educational process. This decision follows an assessment of the state of the education sector and the consequences of damage to the energy infrastructure.

Schools designated as support centers will operate in a format chosen by their teaching staff. Should the need arise to activate these support centers, the educational process will shift to a distance learning mode. School administrators must inform parents and students about the chosen learning format by January 30th.

Holiday Extension and Academic Year Conclusion

It should be noted that holidays in the capital's schools, which were extended starting January 19th, will now last until February 1st. This decision, made in accordance with a government decree, was discussed by the Kyiv City Defense Council. The extended holiday period will be compensated for by shortening the spring break and one week of the summer vacation. However, the academic year in schools will conclude no later than July 1st.

The resumption of classes in Kyiv's schools marks a significant step toward stabilizing the educational process following an extended holiday period caused by the ongoing situation. The flexibility in choosing a learning format allows educational institutions to adapt to the current state of the power supply and ensure student safety. This approach reflects the broader challenges faced by public services in Ukraine during the war.

'Education remains accessible and continues to fulfill its function, despite the challenges arising from the conditions of war and the energy crisis.'
