Flu and Acute Respiratory Infection Rates in Kyiv
During the ninth week of 2026, Kyiv recorded 13,664 new cases of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), which includes Covid-19. The incidence rate was 462.8 per 100,000 people. While this figure is 15.7% below the average epidemic intensity threshold, it represents a 2.6% increase compared to the previous week. Of those who fell ill, 7,380 were children and 6,284 were adults. Specifically, 3,984 cases were reported among school-aged children.
Covid-19 Data and Hospitalizations
According to the Kyiv City Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health, 30 people contracted Covid-19 during this period, three of whom were children under 17. A total of 306 individuals were hospitalized for influenza and ARVI, with 225 of them being children. Additionally, two adults with Covid-19 required hospitalization, one of whom was treated in intensive care.
Tragically, three fatalities were registered. Two deaths resulted from complications of Covid-19, and one was due to complications from influenza. This underscores the critical importance of preventive measures and vaccination to mitigate future health risks. Respiratory illnesses remain a significant public health concern, particularly during the winter and early spring months.
The rise in new flu and ARVI cases in Kyiv, despite the overall incidence rate being below the seasonal average, highlights the need for continued public health vigilance. This is especially true for children, who constitute a large proportion of the infected. The fatalities linked to Covid-19 and flu complications serve as a stark reminder of the value of vaccination and protective measures, which can prevent severe outcomes and save lives.
