Kyiv Urges Residents to Stockpile Water and Food Amid Increased Attacks on Power Infrastructure

Київ закликає мешканців забезпечити себе запасами води та їжі через зростаючі удари по енергетичній інфраструктурі.

City Authorities Advise Kyiv Residents to Prepare

Amid escalating shelling targeting the energy infrastructure, Kyiv’s city officials are urging residents to proactively gather supplies of drinking water, food, and essential items to withstand potential emergency outages. Repair teams are working around the clock to restore electricity, while utility workers focus on bringing water services back to normal across Kyiv and other affected regions.

Guidelines for Water Storage

Authorities have outlined specific water storage recommendations: each adult should have at least 3 liters of potable water daily, plus an additional 10-12 liters of technical water for hygiene and food preparation. It is advised to keep a minimum three-day supply on hand. The city operates 155 water fountain complexes that can function via generators during power failures. Residents can consult the online 'Kyivvodfond' map to find fountain locations, assess their operational status, and verify which remain accessible without electricity. Locating and saving the addresses of nearby fountains ahead of time is strongly recommended.

In addition, residents should ensure power banks and portable chargers are fully charged. Homes should be stocked with:

  • flashlights
  • battery-powered or rechargeable lamps
  • candles
  • matches
  • spare batteries

Insulating living spaces is also advised—sealing window gaps, checking insulation quality, and placing heat barriers between walls and radiators can help retain warmth. For safety when outside after dark, wearing clothing with reflective elements or attaching reflective strips is encouraged.

"With the intensity of attacks increasing, the city administration once again calls on Kyiv residents to secure essential personal reserves," stated officials from the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA).

For verified updates, the city recommends monitoring official channels including the 'Kyiv Digital' app, KCSA’s Telegram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram pages, Kyiv24 TV channel, Kyiv Radio, and the online publication 'Vechirniy Kyiv.'

Given the heightened assaults on energy systems, these preparations are crucial to safeguarding residents' well-being and maintaining a degree of normalcy during outages. The authorities emphasize the importance of staying alert and ready, as the situation can rapidly evolve, making individual readiness vital for health and safety.
