Negotiations between Ukraine and Germany
Volodymyr Zelensky discussed with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz the Russian attack on the airport in Leipzig and offered Ukraine's assistance in countering such attacks. The parties agreed to a personal meeting and are also coordinating the text of the defense agreement called the Drone Deal. Zelensky noted that the teams from Ukraine and Germany are already finalizing the text of the agreement, which he said 'will add capabilities for the protection of both Germany and Ukraine.'
During the negotiations, Zelensky thanked Merz for Germany's reliable support in protecting Ukrainians, noting that new packages of air defense from Germany will arrive this month. He also highlighted that
'This is yet another Russian escalation, and it is important that Germany responded.'Merz informed the Ukrainian president about the measures taken by Germany following the attack on the airport.
Zelensky assured Merz that Ukraine is ready to assist Germany with expertise, experience, or in other areas where it may be needed. Earlier, Germany officially placed responsibility on Moscow for the drone that approached the Ukrainian aircraft in Leipzig. The WSJ publication called the hybrid war against Europe a strategic trap for Russia.
