Kyiv Region Establishes Three New Protected Natural Areas

Київщина започаткувала три нові території природоохоронного значення.

New Protected Areas Created

The Kyiv Regional Council has officially approved the establishment of three new locally significant protected natural areas. These include two botanical nature monuments and one landscape preserve. The decisions were passed under resolution numbers 1631-36-VIII, 1632-36-VIII, and 1633-36-VIII. This move is part of broader efforts to safeguard Ukraine's natural heritage amidst ongoing environmental challenges.

Details of the New Protected Sites

  • Botanical Nature Monument 'Olshanytsia Orchids' has been created within the Rokytne settlement community. Its total area is 5.5 hectares. The resolution text states:

“To declare the botanical nature monument of local significance 'Olshanytsia Orchids' with a total area of 5.5 hectares on the territory without withdrawing land plots, water, and other natural objects from their owners or users, according to the attached list.”
  • Botanical Nature Monument 'Sribna Balka' is located in the Stovpiazke starosta district of the Divychkiv village council in the Boryspil district. The area of 'Sribna Balka' is 0.2560 hectares. As noted in the Kyiv Regional Council's decision:

“To declare the botanical nature monument of local significance 'Sribna Balka' with a total area of 0.2560 hectares in the Stovpiazke starosta district of the Divychkiv village council, Boryspil district, Kyiv region, without withdrawing land plots, water, and other natural objects from their owners or users.”
  • Landscape Preserve 'Bobyrivska Hreblya' has been approved with a total area of 20.97 hectares. A key feature is that the creation of all these sites occurs without confiscating land plots, water bodies, or other natural resources from their current owners or users. The Kyiv Regional Council is also tasked with developing regulations for these nature monuments and ensuring their protection.

The establishment of these new protected areas represents a significant step in preserving the biodiversity and natural resources of the Kyiv region. The new botanical monuments and landscape preserve will help protect unique plant species and ecosystems that are valuable not only locally but for the entire country. Furthermore, the policy of not seizing land demonstrates an intent to balance conservation goals with the interests of local communities. This approach could serve as a model for other Ukrainian regions in managing natural resources effectively.
