Community Support System in the Kyiv Region
The Kyiv region is implementing a new community support system to provide food, heating, and communication during power outages. This initiative is a critical response to the ongoing energy crisis caused by Russia's war against Ukraine, which has targeted civilian infrastructure. The head of the regional military administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, announced the deployment of an autonomous train-kitchen and a mobile kitchen called 'Food Without Borders'.
Autonomous Train-Kitchen and Mobile Kitchen
Currently operating in the Bucha district, the autonomous train-kitchen provided 4,500 hot meals on its first day to the communities of Bucha, Irpin, Hostomel, Borodianka, Dmytrivka, Nemishaieve, and Bilohorodka. This mobile facility has the capacity to serve up to 10,000 meals daily, significantly improving access to hot food for residents.
The 'Food Without Borders' mobile kitchen, a joint project with the Iskra Dobra charity foundation and the Dobrobat volunteer battalion, is also playing a vital role. In Boryspil, this project has distributed 22,500 hot meals. As of today, 46,000 people in need are under the care of the region's social protection services.
Furthermore, the Kyiv region will receive an additional 10 'Resilience Wagons', bringing the total fleet to 19. Each wagon can accommodate approximately 50 people, enhancing the region's ability to provide warm shelter and community support during harsh weather conditions.
The overall support system, including the autonomous train-kitchen and the 'Resilience Wagons', is designed to alleviate the hardships faced by the population amid a challenging energy situation.
The implementation of this new support system in the Kyiv region is a crucial step toward ensuring social stability, particularly during the energy crisis.
