58 Kilograms of Drugs Destroyed by Kyiv Customs: Inside the Parcels and Packages

Знищення 58 кілограмів наркотиків: що дійшло до Київської митниці в посилках.

Kyiv Customs Destroys Seized Narcotics

Authorities in Kyiv have incinerated 58 kilograms of narcotic and psychotropic substances using an ultra-high-temperature furnace. These materials were confiscated during failed smuggling attempts into Ukraine. The illicit items were discovered in international postal shipments, express courier deliveries, and at both Boryspil and Zhuliany airports.

Smugglers attempted to conceal the drugs inside a variety of everyday products, including:

  • candies
  • chocolate bars
  • chewing gum
  • seeds
  • pills
  • e-cigarette liquids

The destroyed haul contained a range of substances, such as:

  • cocaine
  • kratom
  • codeine
  • morphine
  • cannabis
  • cannabis resin
  • tetrahydrocannabinol

Witnesses to the destruction included customs officials, law enforcement officers, and representatives from a licensed disposal organization.

The State Customs Service of Ukraine stated that 'any narcotics and psychotropics entering Ukraine without proper authorization are intercepted by customs and confiscated. From there, there is only one destination: destruction.'

In 2024, the National Police of Ukraine seized nearly 5.5 tons of drugs—equivalent to over 20 million individual doses—along with more than 24 tons of precursor chemicals.

Combating Drug Smuggling Operations

Efforts to crack down on drug trafficking remain a top priority for Ukrainian law enforcement agencies.

This operation is part of Ukraine's broader strategy to combat narcotics and smuggling. The destruction of such a large quantity of drugs highlights the ongoing work of customs and police forces in fighting drug-related crime. These persistent state actions are crucial for ensuring public safety and reducing the availability of illegal substances in the market.

In addition to the recent drug destruction, authorities in Kyiv have been actively addressing the rise of illicit operations disguised as legitimate businesses. For instance, law enforcement has uncovered stores posing as CBD retailers that were, in fact, selling narcotics. This ongoing crackdown illustrates the multifaceted approach needed to tackle drug-related crime in the city.
