In Kyiv, there is a discussion about a possible increase in fare prices in public transport to 30–40 UAH. There is no final decision yet, but the relevant calculations have already been voiced in the transportation sector. This is reported by “AutoConsulting”.
Tariff increase in Kyiv: what price is being discussed
According to information from capital transportation circles, the review of tariffs is related to the rising cost of fuel and the unprofitability of transportation.
After the instruction from the mayor Vitali Klitschko to prepare proposals for increasing fare prices, the city administration reported the current cost of transportation.
According to officials' calculations:
-
a trip on buses, trolleybuses, and trams costs approximately 44 UAH;
-
in the metro – about 64 UAH per passenger.
Taking this data into account, experts suggest that the new tariff may be around 30 UAH for a trip.
Cost of travel in Kyiv: why the dispute arose
The initiative has faced criticism from public organizations. Passengers of Kyiv claim that the actual cost is significantly lower.
According to activists' estimates:
-
ground transportation has a cost of about 20.5 UAH;
-
the metro – approximately 26 UAH.
NGOs believe that official calculations are inflated by more than twice due to the inclusion of depreciation costs for infrastructure and rolling stock that have already been funded by taxpayers.
Currently, specific timelines for a possible increase in tariffs in the capital have not been determined. Discussions are ongoing at the level of relevant structures.
Note that from April 25, 2026, repair works will begin on Brovarskiy Avenue in Kyiv, which will lead to the closure of several tram and bus routes.
