Київське метро в 2025 році: нові рекорди за кількістю пасажирів та втілення сучасних стандартів безпеки.

Records and Safety of Kyiv Metro in 2025

In 2025, the Kyiv Metro recorded a historic number of passengers transported, which amounted to nearly 250 million. Among them, 63.5 million were beneficiaries. In terms of safety, underground metro stations were actively used as shelters during air raids. In 2025, the stations were used 215 thousand times as shelters, and during nighttime danger, 970 thousand people took advantage of them.

Compared to the previous year, when the number of people using the stations as shelters was 450 thousand, a significant increase is observed. This indicates a growing trust in the metro system as a safe place during crisis situations.

Infrastructure Improvements and Educational Activities

Moreover, in 2025, several measures were implemented in the metro aimed at improving infrastructure and accessibility. In particular, the following were replaced:

  • 2,111 sleepers;
  • 620 switchboards;
  • 62 bridge beams;
  • 3,090 meters of track.

Scheduled capital repairs for seven escalators were also carried out, and tactile strips were added on 10 station complexes for the convenience of people with disabilities. A team of specialists conducted 41 major repairs of carriages, contributing to increased comfort in transportation. In 2025, 24 educational projects were implemented, which also emphasizes the importance of informational work with passengers.

Additionally, the lost and found bureau received 358 lost items, of which 97 were returned to their owners. The information center handled over 4,500 inquiries from passengers, indicating active communication with metro users. The city authorities and KP 'Kyiv Metro' are also demanding the recovery of damages from 'Kyivmetrobud'.

On June 16, 2025, an important event took place when Kateryna Yesypchuk received her certificate to operate electric trains, underscoring the growing role of women in the transportation sector. All these facts signify the dynamic development of the Kyiv Metro and its importance for the city amid modern challenges.

The increase in the number of passengers transported and the active use of metro stations as shelters during air raids indicate the importance of the metro for public safety in Kyiv.

Repair works and infrastructure improvements contribute to increased comfort and accessibility of public transport, which, in turn, may lead to an increase in passenger flow in the future. The educational projects are also crucial, highlighting the need for informational interaction with citizens, especially in conditions of heightened security risks.
