Kiev's High-Rise Buildings Purchase Autonomous Power: How Much It Costs and How to Get Compensation

Problems with Electricity Supply in Kiev's High-Rise Buildings

Kiev's high-rise buildings are facing issues with prolonged electricity outages lasting 15-16 hours a day. As a result, residents are seeking solutions to ensure autonomous power supply. In particular, they are investing in systems that allow them to reduce dependence on centralized electricity supply.

The cost of inverters with a capacity of 5 to 15 kW ranges from 40,000 to 120,000 UAH. Battery systems, which are also important for autonomous power supply, cost from 150,000 to 400,000 UAH. Additional installation costs can amount to up to 80,000 UAH. As a result, the total project cost for a high-rise building ranges from 250,000 to 500,000 UAH. The contribution from each apartment amounts to 5,000 to 10,000 UAH, making participation in the project affordable for residents.

Compensations and Support Programs

The Kiev city authorities offer compensations for residents who decided to install autonomous power systems. They reimburse 75% of the equipment cost. Specifically, the compensation can reach:

  • 100,000 UAH for buildings up to 6 floors,
  • 200,000 UAH for buildings from 7 to 16 floors,
  • 300,000 UAH for buildings with more than 17 floors.

In the last three years, Kiev has paid over 120 million UAH in compensations to support such initiatives.

Furthermore, as part of the '70/30' program, a record number of solar power projects have been registered – more than 30. To support the modernization of residential buildings, the Kiev City State Administration (KCSA) also offers interest-free loans through a revolving fund, which facilitates financing of such projects for the city's residents.

This initiative by the city authorities responds to the growing needs of residents for stable electricity supply amid frequent outages.

Investments in autonomous power systems not only improve the quality of life but also reduce the burden on the centralized electricity grid, which is crucial in the context of the country's energy security. Moreover, financing and compensation programs promote the broader adoption of renewable energy sources, which can positively impact the environmental situation in the region.
