Suspect Detained for Setting a Service Member’s Vehicle on Fire
A 48-year-old man has been taken into custody by Kyiv police on charges of burning a vehicle belonging to a member of the 3rd Army Corps, allegedly acting on orders from hostile intelligence services. The incident occurred on Druzhkivska Street in the Sviatoshyn district. The suspect has been officially notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers intentional destruction or damage to property.
The perpetrator, an unemployed local resident, reportedly received an offer via a messaging app to earn $1,000 by setting fire to vehicles displaying Ukrainian military insignia. During the arrest, law enforcement officers seized his mobile phone, incendiary devices, matches, and containers filled with flammable liquid. He did not receive payment for the act, and the arrest was carried out under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators confirmed that the torched car belonged to a soldier from the 3rd Assault Brigade (3rd Army Corps). The suspect has been charged, and the relevant article carries a penalty of up to ten years in prison. He is currently being held in custody as a preventive measure.
This is not the first arson case targeting vehicles in the capital. The Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office recently charged two individuals from the Kirovohrad region with setting fire to luxury SUVs in central Kyiv. That incident took place around 5 a.m. in January 2025 in the Pechersk district, destroying a Porsche Cayenne and a Range Rover Evoque. The owner of the Porsche Cayenne resides abroad.
