Appeal Court Delivers Stricter Sentence
The Kyiv Court of Appeal has increased the prison sentence for a 35-year-old man convicted of crimes against children in Podil district schools. While the initial court sentenced him to 6.5 years, the appellate court raised the term to 10 years. The man attempted to rape an eight-year-old boy in a school toilet in Podil, having entered school restrooms while first and second-grade students were present.

Court documents show he was convicted for two separate incidents on the same day in different Podil schools. In the first case, at a gymnasium, he exposed himself to a six-year-old boy. In another school, he attempted to rape an eight-year-old pupil in a toilet cubicle. These acts were classified as lewd acts and a completed attempted rape under Articles 156 and 152 of Ukraine's Criminal Code.
The court of first instance treated both episodes as lewd acts. However, juvenile prosecutors from the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office appealed this decision. The Kyiv Court of Appeal agreed with the prosecutors' position, resulting in a new sentence of 10 years in prison, with a ban on holding any positions involving work with children.
In a separate case, a 57-year-old man will stand trial in Kyiv for producing child pornography and sexually assaulting three girls, aged 8 and 12. The man, who worked as a cash collector, invited children to an apartment in the Desnianskyi district. Prosecutors from the Kamianets-Podilskyi District Prosecutor's Office have also sent to court a case involving abuse of a minor that lasted from 2017. The accused committed acts in 2020 and again in 2024-2025, with the victim aged between 5 and 13 years old during this period.
