Third Missile Strike Halts Production at Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Plant in Obukhiv

Нове ракетне влучення призвело до зупинки виробництва на підприємстві з виготовлення паперу в Обухові.

Missile Attack Targets Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Plant

On October 7, the Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Plant located in Obukhiv endured its third missile strike within six months, resulting in extensive damage and a temporary shutdown of production. The explosions triggered fires that emergency teams are still working to extinguish. Fortunately, no employees were injured during the assault.

“Despite significant material losses, our main relief is that none of our staff who followed safety protocols were harmed,” the plant’s press service reported.

Impact of the Attack

Situated in Kyiv Oblast, this pulp and paper enterprise operates under the Austrian-owned Pulp Mill Holding. According to official statements, the strike severely damaged production and storage facilities, along with critical machinery and engineering infrastructure.

On the same day, Russian drone strikes caused damage in the Bucha and Fastiv districts of Kyiv region. In Bucha, a warehouse and a vehicle suffered harm, while in Fastiv, a private home endured roof damage. No casualties or injuries were reported in either area. Local authorities are actively addressing the destruction caused by these attacks.

This latest attack highlights the persistent threat posed by missile and drone strikes targeting Ukraine's industrial sites and civilian infrastructure. The damage to the paper plant is expected to disrupt its manufacturing capacity, potentially impacting the regional economy. Cleanup operations are underway, but full restoration of production will require time, affecting supply chains within the sector. Nonetheless, the absence of worker casualties remains a positive aspect amid these challenges.

The ongoing conflict continues to impact various regions, as evidenced by recent events in Kyiv. In a related incident, Russian strikes have caused fires and damage to numerous sites across the Kyiv region, fortunately without any reported casualties. This highlights the broader challenges faced by local industries and communities amidst the escalating attacks, further complicating recovery efforts in the area.
