Incident at Khreshchatyk Station
A 19-year-old man was fined 17,000 hryvnias for a public order offense that occurred on September 14, 2025. The court rejected a separate claim from the municipal enterprise 'Kyiv Metropoliten,' which had sought 27,600 hryvnias in material compensation and 50,000 hryvnias for moral damages from the accused.
The event took place at Khreshchatyk station, where the young man jumped from the escalator onto a balustrade and ran down it. During this act, he broke an advertising light fixture, causing 360 hryvnias in damages to its owner, LLC 'Mig+.' The company's director formally notified the metro of the need to replace five lighting lamps, which formed the basis for the metro's subsequent 27,600 hryvnia claim for repair work.
Law Enforcement and Court Response
Police identified the culprit based on video footage circulating on social media. In court, the young man pleaded guilty and expressed sincere remorse for his actions. Despite this, the court dismissed Kyiv Metropoliten's demands for moral damages, imposing only the 17,000 hryvnia administrative fine. Incidents like this highlight ongoing challenges with public order in busy transit systems.
