Reckless Driving Incidents in Kyiv
In Kyiv's Dnipro district, patrol officers stopped a Honda driver traveling without a license plate. The driver ignored a lawful order to pull over, triggering a pursuit. During the escape, he rammed three police vehicles on Budivelnykiv Street. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but both the driver and his passenger showed clear signs of intoxication.
It was later revealed that the Honda driver had previously been stripped of his driving privileges for a decade due to a DUI conviction. Following the incident, authorities filed several charges, including:
- Article 124 of the Administrative Code (traffic violation causing an accident);
- Part 1 of Article 130 (driving under the influence);
- Article 122-2 (failure to comply with a lawful stop request);
- Part 1 of Article 121-3 (operating a vehicle without a license plate);
- Part 4 of Article 126 (driving while license is revoked).
Crash on Beresteiskyi Avenue
Separately, on Beresteiskyi Avenue in the Sviatoshyn district, another crash occurred. A 46-year-old male driver, found to be intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of 2.48 promille, collided with a Tesla. The accident left a 40-year-old female passenger in the Lada with severe injuries—a piece of glass lacerated her jugular vein.
In the Solomianskyi district, at the intersection of Umanska and Ivan Svitlychny Streets, a Mercedes-Benz driver—identified as Pavlo Pleshivtsev, born in 1976—crashed into an underground pedestrian crossing. Pleshivtsev, a resident of the Kherson region, also leads the evangelical Christian Baptist community 'Church of the Village of Pidstepne.' Prior to this tragedy, he had been involved in four recorded accidents, two of which occurred this year. He had also been repeatedly fined for systematic speeding violations.
Recent events in Kyiv highlight the ongoing issue of drunk driving and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
These incidents underscore a pressing need to improve traffic law enforcement systems, particularly regarding impaired driving. The relevance of this issue is amplified by the frequency of crashes that lead to severe consequences for road users. Authorities must take decisive action to reduce such violations and enhance road safety across the city.
Such reckless behavior on the roads is not an isolated incident in Kyiv. Recently, a Mercedes driver was found to have 39 traffic violations prior to a fatal crash, highlighting a troubling trend of repeated offenses among drivers in the city. This raises concerns about road safety and the enforcement of traffic regulations.
