Maintaining Mobile Service in Ukraine
In an interview with the Economic Truth publication, Kyivstar CEO Oleksandr Komarov stated that mobile communications in Ukraine will not be completely lost, even in the event of a total energy collapse. The operator is prepared to keep approximately 30% of its network running using reserves, batteries, and generators. This resilience is crucial for a nation where reliable communication is a matter of safety and coordination during wartime.
Komarov noted that battery backups can power base stations for up to 10 hours, depending on load. However, cold temperatures significantly impact the equipment: battery capacity decreases while recharge time increases. To ensure continuous service, the operator also uses stationary generators that operate automatically. The key task for technical teams is to service these generators and ensure the timely delivery of fuel.
